Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from sessions?

Therapy sessions are a collaborative process between you and your therapist. During sessions, you can expect to discuss your concerns, challenges, goals, and progress in a safe and supportive environment. Your therapist may utilize various therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, or mindfulness-based approaches, to help you gain insights, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in your life. The specific content and structure of sessions may vary depending on your individual needs and the therapeutic approach used.

Do I have to use my insurance?

No, you have the option to pay for your sessions out-of-pocket if you prefer not to use your insurance. However, we do accept most major insurance plans, and our administrative staff can assist you in verifying your coverage and benefits. If you choose to use your insurance, please be aware that there may be certain requirements or limitations imposed by your plan, such as copayments, deductibles, or pre-authorization for services.

What is a conflict of interest in therapy?

A conflict of interest in therapy arises when a therapist's personal interests, relationships, or other external factors could potentially compromise their professional judgment, objectivity, or ability to provide unbiased and effective care to a client. This could include situations where the therapist has a dual relationship with the client (e.g., being their friend, family member, or business partner), has a financial interest in the outcome of therapy, or experiences personal biases that could interfere with their therapeutic work. If you have any concerns about a potential conflict of interest with your therapist, it's important to discuss them openly and honestly.

How often will my sessions be?

The frequency of your therapy sessions will be determined based on a number of factors, including your individual needs, treatment goals, and the recommendations of your therapist. Some clients may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may only need to meet every other week or even less frequently. The frequency of sessions can also be adjusted over time as your needs and progress change. Your therapist will work with you to develop a treatment plan that meets your specific needs and schedule.

Am I allowed to record my session?

Recording therapy sessions is generally not permitted without the express consent of your therapist. This is to protect your privacy and confidentiality, as well as to maintain a safe and trusting therapeutic environment. If you have a specific reason for wanting to record your sessions, please discuss it with your therapist beforehand. They will be able to explain the potential risks and benefits and help you make an informed decision.

What if I can’t make it to my appointment?

If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please contact our office as soon as possible to reschedule or cancel. We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. However, please be aware that our cancellation policy requires at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Failure to provide adequate notice may result in a cancellation fee.

You are encouraged to discuss telehealth options with your therapist as well to better accommodate your needs. There are some restrictions with video/audio telehealth, so it is important to review this option with your therapist.
